Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Therapy

An advanced regenerative option that uses a concentrated sample of your own bone marrow to support healing in certain joint and soft-tissue conditions.

What Is
BMAC Therapy?

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) therapy uses cells drawn from your own bone marrow, typically from the pelvic bone, to support the body’s natural healing response.

Bone marrow contains a mixture of cells, including mesenchymal stem cells, that play a role in tissue repair and regeneration. By concentrating this material and reintroducing it into an affected joint or soft-tissue structure, BMAC is intended to help support that natural repair process as part of a broader, individualized therapy plan. BMAC is considered one of the more advanced orthobiologic options available at Regen Ortho & Wellness.

How BMAC Works

BMAC therapy begins with a minimally invasive bone marrow aspiration, most often performed at the pelvic bone using a specialized needle under local anesthesia. That sample is then processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the cellular material, separating it from other components of the aspirate. Once prepared, we inject the concentrated BMAC directly into the affected joint or soft-tissue structure, often using ultrasound guidance to help precisely target the intended area. Because BMAC uses your own cells, obtained and reintroduced during the same procedure, it is generally well tolerated.

Step 1

Aspiration

Usually at the pelvic bone, under local anesthesia.

Step 2

Centrifuge

Processed to concentrate the cellular material.

Step 3

Injection

Placed in the affected area, often with ultrasound guidance.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

Most BMAC appointments, from aspiration to injection, can be completed in a single office visit, though the aspiration step involves more preparation than a standard blood draw. Patients may notice some soreness at both the aspiration site and the injection site in the days following therapy, which is a normal part of the body’s response to the procedure.

We will review what to expect during recovery, including any activity guidelines specific to your situation, before you leave your appointment.

Who May Be a Candidate

BMAC therapy may be considered for certain joint and soft-tissue conditions, including some cases of osteoarthritis and select tendon or ligament injuries, when appropriate for the individual and when other options may not be a strong enough fit. Because BMAC is a more involved procedure than some of our other regenerative options, it is not the right starting point for every patient.

We’ll go through your diagnosis, imaging, and medical history together first, so we can talk about whether BMAC, another option such as PRP or A2M, or a combination of therapies best fits your goals and your condition.
