Real-time imaging that helps guide injections to the exact joint or soft-tissue structure being treated.
What Are Ultrasound-Guided Injections?
Ultrasound-guided injections use real-time imaging to visualize a joint, tendon, or soft-tissue structure while the injection is being administered.
Rather than relying on surface landmarks and feeling alone, we use a handheld ultrasound probe to see the target area, the needle, and the surrounding anatomy on screen throughout the procedure. This approach is used across a range of injection types at Regen Ortho & Wellness, including orthobiologic therapies such as PRP, and is especially useful for joints and soft-tissue structures that can be difficult to target by feel alone.
How Ultrasound-Guided Injections Work
During an ultrasound-guided injection, the ultrasound probe is positioned over the treatment area to get a clear, real-time view of the joint, tendon, or surrounding structures before the needle is introduced. The ultrasound image is used to help guide the needle to the intended location and confirm placement before the injection is given. This process can be used for a variety of joints and soft-tissue sites, including the knee, shoulder, hip, elbow, wrist, and ankle, and is selected based on what best supports accurate placement for your specific condition.
Step 1
Visualize
The probe gives a clear, real-time view of the area.
Step 2
Guide
The image helps guide the needle to the intended spot.
Step 3
Confirm & inject
Placement is confirmed before the injection is given.
What to Expect During Your Treatment
Ultrasound-guided injections are typically completed in a single office visit and are usually well tolerated. You may feel brief pressure or discomfort during the injection itself, and some mild soreness at the injection site in the day or two afterward is common, particularly depending on what is being injected.
We will review any activity guidelines or aftercare specific to your treatment before you leave your appointment, along with what to expect as you recover.
Who May Be a Candidate
Ultrasound guidance may be recommended any time precise needle placement is especially important, including for deeper joints, smaller structures, or areas where landmark-based injection is more likely to miss the intended target. It is often used alongside other therapies offered at Regen Ortho & Wellness, including PRP, A2M, and BMAC, to help support accurate delivery.
Whether ultrasound guidance is appropriate for your injection depends on the structure being treated and your individual anatomy, which we will evaluate as part of your treatment plan.

Why Choose Regen Ortho & Wellness for Ultrasound-Guided Injections
At Regen Ortho & Wellness, PRP therapy is never treated as a one-size-fits-all solution. Nikki Acuff, DMSc, MSPAS, PA-C, personally evaluates each patient and performs each procedure herself, using ultrasound guidance to help support precision when a procedure calls for it. Rather than defaulting to PRP for every patient who asks about it, we will walk you through how it compares with other options available at our practice, including A2M and BMAC, so you can make an informed decision about your care.
Wondering whether your injection should be done under ultrasound guidance? Ask us during your consultation with Regen Ortho & Wellness, and we’ll walk you through when it’s used and why.
